A Study in Scarlet
Author: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Genre: Suspense Thriller
Theme: Mystery
Today, as we look back to the creation of a benchmark for detective thrillers, it is Sherlock Holmes we find the levels confine at. We learn from him, and we compare to him, to the works of the great author. Considered the finest detective of all times in the world of fiction, Holmes has developed a crazy desire for a manifestation of his in any way possible for his fans. No wonder so many movies, web series, and uncountable fan fiction have been born over this series. Still, I truly believe that the quality that Doyle portrayed in bringing life to the character of Holmes in a time like the 1880s is taken very lightly and deserves more attention.
A Study in Scarlet introduces us to the great mind of Holmes for the very first time, who is a consulting detective, and we come to know more about him via the words of Dr. Watson, his roommate. His tremendous skills and knowledge around crime and tobacco, which we are very initially introduced to, set the stage for the upcoming story. Journeying in, we find a murder occur which, in process, after having taken the consideration of blood marks and constructive details off the scene, was brilliantly decoded the mystery of by the sleuth. The thing however that is so unique about the portrayal of the detective in his very first story is the thought process that he undergoes in unraveling the killer, even being able to make that killer unerringly come to 221B, Baker Street, the house of Sherlock. Obtrusive turns and tackles and brilliant deduction qualities of the detective surely find an admirer in every reader. Showing a crazy detective through the eyes of Dr. Watson, that being Sherlock Holmes, apply his abilities in a town murder solving the ties, and then when the mystery unravels, we understand truly how tremendous Sherlock's skills are, was truly authentic. Certainly, he brought about the perfect commix of suspense, drama, and thrill in his portrayal of London in the 80s of the second last century.
