Crime thriller is the most popular genre of literature in all languages. In English language, we have encountered multiple detectives like Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, Miss Marple, and more. Likewise, in Bengali Literature, we read of many reel life detectives, primarily Byomkesh Bakshi, Feluda, Kiriti Roy, and many more. But, particularly here, the author, himself being a top-level police officer of Kolkata Police, has beautifully illustrated how real-life detectives solve many mysteries, especially murder cases. This book chronicles twelve of Kolkata's most perilous murder cases solved by the Detective Department of Kolkata Police. Spanning from the 1960s to the 1990s, these true stories highlighted the police's triumphs in unravelling complex crimes. Sarkar adeptly describes the investigative procedures, infusing each account with suspense and realism. One particularly chilling case involves a man who murders his pregnant mistress, dismembers her body, and scatters the pieces around the city.

Sarkar's background as a former journalist at Anandabazar Patrika enriches the narrative with a detailed, report-like style. He succinctly summarizes the lengthy investigations, emphasizing the detectives' methods, the victims' backgrounds, and the prime suspects. This approach turns each story into a thrilling read that keeps readers on edge. Currently, the book has two parts. The first part consists of twelve murder cases, and the second part consists of another twelve murder cases, including the story of the ‘stoneman’.

It promises to be a true ingredient for creating thrill amongst book lovers all over the world, particularly those interested in Bengali literature.
