This book is one of my all-time favourites! The addictive writing style along with spectacular world-building is really what makes this story so good. The combination of fairytale stories and the bleak everyday life of Charlie Reade pulls on your heartstrings whilst creating that unsettling feeling that Stephen King does incredibly well. This book is no stranger to the dark twisted aesthetic of King's other works which makes it such an enjoyable read as he takes the idyllic setting of "fairytales" and crafts them to create an unsettling yet realistic feeling. This book left me with the thought that the stories we get told as young children may actually have happened and the characters are still out there, trapped. Waiting for someone like Charlie to come and let them out into the real world.
