Never Lie is a psychological thriller that keeps you guessing with its clever twists and intriguing premise. The story begins with newlyweds Tricia and Ethan, stranded during a snowstorm, taking shelter in a sprawling, vacant house. As they explore the mysterious home, they uncover secrets about its former owner, Dr. Adrienne Hale, a famous psychiatrist who vanished years ago without a trace.
Freida McFadden’s writing is highly engaging and easy to follow—she masterfully builds suspense, keeping readers hooked until the very end. The isolated, eerie setting creates a tense and haunting atmosphere. The narrative is packed with twists and turns that make it hard to put the book down. Tricia’s discovery of Dr. Hale’s audio sessions reveals shocking details about the doctor and her patients, setting off a series of events that spiral into a gripping and twist-filled narrative.
While the plot is undeniably gripping, I had mixed feelings about some aspects. The protagonist’s inner dialogue at the beginning felt completely disconnected from the overall storyline. It just didn’t sit well with me—when you read it, you’ll see what I mean. Additionally, the unnecessary resemblances between certain characters felt like a forced attempt to deceive readers, which took away from the overall enjoyment. And, alas, the ending, while surprising, lacked the impact I was hoping for and felt a bit dull after all the buildup.
Despite these drawbacks, McFadden’s knack for storytelling and her ability to create addictive suspense shine through. If you love psychological thrillers with unpredictable twists, Never Lie is worth a read.
