Powerless by Lauren Roberts is a solid 4-star read for me. It's a young adult, intense and character driven story that blends action, suspense and romance. It's set in a world between "Ordinaries" (people without abilities) and "Elites" (people with powers/abilities). "Paedyn", is an ordinary without any powers but she has to pretend that she is an Elite to save her life. She finds herself thrown into a dangerous game of trials - a deadly series of challenges reserved for elites. She's resilient and willing to do whatever it takes to survive, which makes her journey a heart pounding adventure.

However, my most favorite part and true star of the book for me is "Kai" (King's son and the Future Enforcer of Ilya) who earned a glowing 5-star rating. He’s not only complex but also impossibly magnetic – he’s both strong and vulnerable, whose every interaction with Paedyn left me wanting more. His depth and fierce loyalty bring an extra spark to the story, making him utterly captivating. Kai and Paedyn’s relationship is a slow burn, one that feels incredibly real and worth rooting for. They have a complex relationship and their chemistry is electric, filled with tension, wit, and depth, making it impossible not to root for them.

Powerless is a treat for fans of character-driven fantasy novels with a slow burn romantic plot. Each of these moments shows his deepening feelings and keeps us on edge, anticipating the moment he’ll finally let his guard down. His slow-burn approach is one of the many reasons he’s so mesmerizing ❤️ - making every interaction feel intense, meaningful, and undeniably romantic.

For anyone who loves young adult fantasy with rich character development and a slow-burn romance, Powerless is an absolute treat!!
